Youth in Action
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12
At Baker Heights, we know that the youth of our church are our future leaders, and we want to equip them to be able to go out into the world and lead others to Christ. It is crucial as they prepare to enter adult society that we help them gain a solid foundation of faith that will carry them throughout their lives.
The Youth Group, sometimes called the “Youth in Action”, have many different activities throughout the year that help them grow closer as friends and grow closer to Christ. Past activities have included wilderness treks, lock-ins, game nights, post-football game hang-outs, attending baseball games and visiting theme parks, as well as participating in many other BHCC events, such as Ladies Nights Out and congregational retreats.
On a more spiritual side, the youth group helps perform the weekly services at the University Place Independent Living facility and take communion to our home-bound members. They hold regular Bible studies and devotionals hosted by different members of the congregation.
One of the most exciting opportunities for our youth group is to participate in Leadership Training for Christ, or LTC, every Easter Weekend. LTC is a statewide convention that develops their knowledge of the Bible, enhances their leadership skills, and orients their abilities to areas of Christian service. Participants take part in many different events, including Bible Bowl, puppets, chorus, art, and many other activities that they can utilize for Christ as they mature in the Church. To learn more about LTC, visit www.ntltc.org.
During the fall and spring semesters, we have a special class for children aged 2 and a half through 2nd grade. Members of the Youth group serve as puppeteers and other CBC leaders on a once-a-month rotation.
During the summer, BHCC hosts its annual Vacation Bible School, or VBS, for kids aged 2 and a half through 5th grade. Members of the youth group serve as teachers assistants, helping in many ways to make sure VBS is a success!
During the summer, members of the youth group can attend White River Youth Camp. There are also multiple retreats for High Schoolers during the year. For more information about White River, visit www.whiteriveryouthcamp.com.
