The next couple of days parents will be preparing to send their kids back to school. For many this will mean going from store to store and fighting the crowd to find that bradded, pocketed folder of specific color that one teacher wants them to have. For others it will mean trying to get your kids back to a normal sleeping routine. There is a lot that goes into getting your kids ready for school. We spend a lot of time focusing on the physical, the sleep and stuff they need, but have we spent any time preparing our kids spiritually?
Take Responsibility
There is a saying that we tell our youth kids before we turn them loose at a convention, a store, theme park, or anywhere they will have to take responsibility for their own actions. We tell them to remember who they are and whose they are. It is just a brief reminder that they are called to be examples of Christ, and they belong to God and not the world.
Remember
As we prepare to send our kids back to a place that isn’t always the best influence and that is filled with people who may not always believe the same way that they do, we need to make sure that they have more than the right folders and new tennis shoes. We need to make sure they understand they are a child of God, and they have loving family both at home and church if they ever need encouragement or reminding.
So let us not just keep our students and returning teachers in our prayers for the next couple of days, but throughout the year. Let us make sure that we are there for them with encouragement and reminders of who they are and whose they are. Let’s all have a great start to the school year.
