Prayer of Jabez

Almost 25 years ago, a little book was written by Bruce Wilkinson, titled “The Prayer of Jabez”. It sold millions of copies and received multiple awards. Probably, many of us have read this book and I know many preachers have preached about it. I remind you of the words of this prayer in 1 Chronicles 4:10—

“Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!” And God granted him what he requested.”

“Enlarge my border”? Does that sound like something we want here at Baker Heights? Do we want a larger family here at BHCC? What opportunities we have here in our corner of the city of Abilene! We have been blessed to have a number of visitors at our assemblies. We are so blessed to have so many opportunities of service. One thing is for sure, though. God will give us more when our motive is to do more for Him. Remember 2 Corinthians 9:10-11…

“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

I would encourage all of us to pray this prayer to enlarge all our ministerial opportunities. Ask God to increase our influence for the gospel. Ask God to bring us further, to bring us deeper, to cause us to seek new horizons, to reach people with the gospel who may be outside our territory or even outside our comfort zones. We must be in prayer for God to increase our ability to reach more people and to do great things for His glory.

Church, are we ready for God to expand our lives? Are we ready to get more involved? Are you ready for more responsibility? Are we truly ready to have God move us out to take on greater responsibilities? It’s your choice! ONE MORE IN 2024!
