Listen and See

Life can be tough. Unexpected illness or injury. Loss of loved ones. Changes in employment status or financial setbacks. Yeah, life can be tough. What can we do? We need to remember that God has us in His hands. We just have to listen and see.

In I Kings, Elijah was being pursued by Jezebel to kill him. Elijah prayed to die. Then he was told to go to the mountain top because the Lord was passing by. You know what happened. There was a strong wind, an earthquake, and a fire. God wasn’t there. Then there was the sound of a gentle breeze. God was there. He gave Elijah a task. Then he picked up a new guy, Elisha (more about him later) and went about the task God assigned him. Well, we know how it turned out for Jezebel. She had a dog gone bad day. God protected Elijah so he could complete the task he was assigned. He listened to the voice of God that came in an unexpected way.

Now back to Elisha.

In II Kings, the king of Aram was upset at Elisha for keeping the King of Israel informed of Aram’s plans. When Aram found out where Elisha was, he sent an army after him. Elisha wasn’t worried. His servant was. They were completely surrounded. The servant couldn’t see how they were going to get out of this tough spot. Elisha asked God to open the servant’s eyes to see the host of God there to protect them. The servant could see, but by God’s hand, the army of Aram couldn’t.

Tough Times

When life gets tough, we have to remember that God is there for us. When the difficulties of life overwhelm us, we need to listen for His guidance. It may come from a source we don’t expect. When we can’t see our way out of a difficult or challenging situation, we need to heed that Voice we listened to and open our eyes to the way He had prepared for us.
