Isn’t it Great to be a Christian?

As my brother Charles would ask…Isn’t it great to be a Christian?
Think about it. Before the world was even created, God chose us. We are small, powerless, selfish creatures, who are always wandering off and getting ourselves in trouble. And not only did he choose us, but He had a plan; a plan that not only included us but made us a central feature of His plan. Consider His love and patience. It is true that after the first case of “God wouldn’t really punish me for that, would He?” syndrome, mankind would devolve into something so set upon doing evil, that God would regret ever creating mankind. Yet even then, there was Noah – one who was faithful – who built a massive boat because God told him to. And God had mercy by saving eight people to continue the plan.

Over and over, we read in the Bible of God’s mercy, while humankind made mistake after mistake, from Abraham to Moses to David, and all of Israel. Still the plan of creation and salvation did not fail. Though Israel gave up her special place to be like the rest of the world, God was faithful. And then something unimaginable happened. God became man, and lived with us, in a body like ours, showing us an example of what it meant to be a true, obedient servant of God, in the person of Jesus, the promised Messiah.

Think about that story. Creation was very good, mankind messed it up, God set things right through his mercy, and despite His grief. Then came the culmination of creation in Jesus Christ. And now, by faith in Christ, we could become a part of God’s new creation. We can know that God loves us as He washes us clean and gives us the joy of knowing that we are free, and that God has purpose for us. As we see in Revelation, this plan will continue until this present world will end, and for eternity we are able to walk in the presence of God, the Son, and the Spirit, in the final new creation that will reveal the full, magnificent unveiling of God’s eternal plan. May we all consider how blessed we are, and work the will of God, till everything is revealed.
