The other day, I received an invitation to try a “Beta” version of some new software. In the digital world, that means that it is available for public use with the understanding that there may be some imperfections or “bugs” in it. Because it has not yet been perfected, the company counts on the user to give them grace if things don’t go exactly as expected. If something does go wrong, you simply report it and remain thankful for having the opportunity to use it.
Wouldn’t it be great if we treated each other as “Beta” brothers and sisters, remembering that we are all just a work in progress. None of us is perfect. We all fall short of the bullseye at times.
As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one;” Romans 3:10
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
Aiming at the Bullseye
This fact should not keep us from aiming at the bullseye; it just means that hitting it 100% of the time is not an obtainable goal. If anyone was perfect, they would not need Jesus. We all need Jesus.
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” John 14:6
When it comes to relationships, why don’t we try to live in “Beta” mode, characterized by giving and receiving lots of grace. As hard as we might try, we have to lean on Jesus even for our faith. “Jesus is the founder and perfecter of our faith.” Heb. 12-2.
There is a song that says, “All to Jesus I surrender.” Each of us needs to ask ourselves honestly, have I?
