What is one of the most neglected groups in the church? (A) Elderly members (B) The youth (C) Singles (those who are not married). The correct answer is (C). To help meet the unique needs of our singles we are starting a Singles Ministry.
- The purpose for this ministry is to help singles become directly involved in the Lord’s work with the whole congregation. We will discuss ways singles can provide service to others, such as being available to help when a need arises without having to leave a family at home.
- The ministry will work to involve unmarried people in the congregation’s activities when they might feel left out when the emphasis is on families and couples. We will make the church aware of the single members.
- This ministry is “inter-generational”. It is not based on age. It includes all unmarried members from high school graduates and up. All unmarried people face the common situation of living alone. We can help each other. The older members mentor the younger members, and the younger members can provide needed services for those who are older.
- What the ministry is not: This ministry is not a “dating service” or a “matchmaking” service. It is a group that shares a common situation- being alone in the church when the emphasis is often on those who are married.
- The ministry will work on outreach to other singles in the community.
The first meeting for singles will be Sunday Morning, September 14, following the morning worship. Bring your ideas and suggestions as we discuss ways to be involved in the Lord’s Kingdom.
Paul dedicated his entire life to serving the Lord without being married. (1 Corinthians 7:6-9) Jesus said that some had made themselves eunuchs (decided to remain single) for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 19:12)
We need the prayers and support of the whole church as we begin this ministry.
