Aim small, miss small

“Aim small, miss small” is a saying that often used among marksmen. It suggests that if you aim at a very small, specific point on a target, even if you miss, you are more likely to still hit the larger target area than if you aimed at the larger target itself and missed. By limiting your focus, you reduce distraction and improve your accuracy.

Small goals

Too many times as Christians we set our goal as just being a good person, just trying to be kind and putting more good in the world than bad. But our goal should be to be like Christ. In the letter to the Corinthians, Paul instructs them to be imitators of him as he is of Christ (1 Cor 11:1) and in Philippians he tell them to have the very mindset of Christ (Phil 2:5-10). We know that we all sin and fall short of goal, but our aim should be so Christ-centered that our misses are small.

Pressing on

This is always easier said than done, but that is why we thank God for the grace that we have through Jesus Christ. Our failure should not change our goal and aim. We are told even though we have not yet taken hold of this goal, Christ has taken hold of us. And that we should forget what is behind and strain for what is ahead, pressing on to our heavenward call in Christ. (Phil 3:12-14).

So let us all aim small and miss small, striving to be like Christ.
