Our church family at Baker Heights has changed over the past few months because of several events that have brought us a renewal of our faith and a more spiritual outlook as a church family. Things like a new pulpit minister, new leaders that have brought forward new methods, and an emphasis on evangelism are being initiated, and new families are being added to our flock.
However, as these changes are taking place, we have also made or are making changes in our corporate worship and education program. We must remember that these changes should not be self-serving, not meant to adapt the cultural norms around us, and should only be made for the betterment of our church family and spreading of the Gospel. We must realize that the following Biblical truths are everlasting and cannot be changed by man.
GOD’S NATURE AND WORDS
In Hebrews 13:8 it says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
THE GOSPEL MESSAGE
In Galatians 1:6-10 – Paul warns against anyone, even angels, from preaching a different gospel than was preached to the Galatians.
BASIC MORAL AND ETHICAL STANDARDS
These include Biblical commands regarding holiness, love, and justice. These commands are enduring and not subject to the constantly shifting moral standards of the world. (Matthew 5-7)
THE AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE
The WORD is the ultimate authority for faith and practice. Therefore, tradition should not be placed above it. (Matthew 15:6)
SPIRITUAL RENEWAL
The WORD calls for personal and congregational spiritual transformation. (Romans 12:2 and Ephesians 4:22-24). This leads us to an active response and participation in our personal and corporate worship and spiritual life that we live.
Finally, when changes are considered, we must use discernment to ensure that all actions are done for the glory of GOD and the betterment of the church family!
