As Christians, we are to take on more and more of the character of Jesus Christ. Romans 8:29 says that God predestined us to “be conformed to the image of His Son.” As we live our lives for the Lord, there is a spiritual transformation into His image “And we all, …., are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Cor. 3:18) This change is a transformation of the mind. “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus…” (Phil. 2:5). which moves us to submission and obedience to God.

“Jesus answered, ‘The foremost is, ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:29-31)

We must pattern our conduct after Christ. “The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” (1 John 2:6) We will become more caring and compassionate, just as Jesus did. “Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.” (Matt. 9:36) We must be honest, teaching the truth in love, and forgiving just as Christ forgave us.

“but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,” (Eph. 4:15).

“We must be an example to others and be able to say, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.” (1 Cor. 11:1) On the Day when Christ returns, we will take on the heavenly nature of Christ. “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” (1 John 3:2) Our focus should not be on what would Jesus do, but rather on what did Jesus do. Do that!
