I was working on the plumbing of my house the other day and I needed to cut a rubber connection. As I pulled out my knife, I noticed it was dull. At that moment I could hear my father’s voice saying, “A dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one.” Since the task was small, I thought to myself, “I will just go ahead and sharpen it later”. Sure enough, the knife slipped and I cut my hand. My twelve-year-old boy scout self was very disappointed.
Have you ever been there? Remembering someone’s advice as you make a choice or decision?
Did you listen?
As Christians, when we are faced with a choice or decision, we should take a second and listen for our heavenly Father’s voice. With busy and distracted lives we live, it can sometimes be difficult to hear that voice. I have learned, though, that the more time you spend with your father, the easier it is to hear. The same is true with us as Christians. The more time we spend with the Father and his children, the easier it is to hear His voice. So, make sure that you are devoting time to God’s word, fellowship with God’s children, gathering for the assembly, and spending time in prayer (Act 2:42). Do those things and you will start to hear the Father’s voice more clearly, especially in times of need.
